Qualifying period

Qualifying period, in the context of employment law, is the period of time employees must have worked continuously for an employer in order to be eligible for certain statutory rights.

For example, employees must usually have worked for one or two years (depending on when their employment started) to claim unfair dismissal and one month to request a written statement of changes in terms and two years to be eligible for a statutory redundancy payment.
