SEN and Equality

Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disability considerations in a school environment continue to be high on the agenda and can take up a lot of time. The new SEN Code of Practice emphasises children with medical conditions and ensures that they are being properly cared for in school, furthermore, the impact of the Equality Act 2010 combine and place various responsibilities on the school staff.

One important factor is to ensure that policies and procedures harmonise with other school policies and offer no confusion or contradiction.

Having a scheme in place that reflects the obligations in the SEN code to ‘plan, do, assess and review’ is a vital part of school management, governance, people progress and the OFSTED framework.

We can provide advice about individual issues, liaise with third parties or assist with applications for Education Health and Care Plans. We have experience of supporting schools to manage complaints, defend disability tribunal applications and to seek positive resolutions and outcomes for all involved. We can look at individual cases, prepare and deliver bespoke training for key members of the school community or the whole school.
